There’s an effective way to keep flies out of homes.
Although flies are considered pests, they play a crucial role in the ecosystem, particularly in decomposition and pollination.

With spring and the approach of summer, many pests such as flies are making a comeback both indoors and outdoors. While some are worth protecting, as they can be beneficial to local flora and fauna, other pests can wreak havoc in gardens, as when caterpillars, slugs or ants attack flower or vegetable plantations.

Some pests, such as cockroaches and cockroaches, can also have unpleasant consequences, although they are neither harmful nor dangerous to health. Some flying insects, such as the Asian hornet, are very dangerous to humans and pets, so it’s essential to get rid of them as soon as a nest is spotted.

WITH THE RETURN OF SPRING, SOME PESTS ARE MAKING A COMEBACK, INCLUDING FLIES

While some pests are dangerous to humans, others are simply annoying and unappetising. These are flies, which can invade the interiors of houses, but can also be omnipresent at outdoor meals. These insects are very present in spring and summer, when temperatures warm up and food spends more time outdoors.

They often enter homes in large numbers, making their presence invasive and very annoying for both humans and pets. Most of the time, they are attracted by food, particularly rubbish in dustbins. However, they are also particularly keen on heat and humidity.

A TECHNIQUE TO ERADICATE FLIES INSIDE HOUSES

The number of flies increases with rising temperatures, which can make their presence very annoying.

There are several techniques for getting rid of them, but one in particular prevents them from entering homes in summer. This is the aluminium foil technique.

All you have to do is fill a clear freezer bag with water and pieces of aluminium foil, then close it tightly.

If the flies are getting in through more than one window, you’ll need to repeat the technique with several bags, the next step being to hang the bags around the windows to scare the flies away.

This technique works on the same principle as hanging CDs in trees to keep birds away.

The flies will be dazzled by the sun and the light reflected in the pieces of aluminium.

They will also be disorientated, which will scare them away and, above all, prevent them from entering homes.

ALTHOUGH THEY ARE A REAL NUISANCE, FLIES STILL PLAY A ROLE IN THE ECOSYSTEM

While this is a radical technique for keeping flies out of homes, it won’t be effective if the insects are already inside.

In this case, other traps can be put in place, such as installing repellent plants, making homemade traps or using commercially available repellents.

It is also advisable to keep the inside of your home clean, to avoid attracting these flying insects.

Although flies are seen as pests in spring and summer, they nevertheless play an important role in the ecosystem.

They help to decompose organic matter. Some species can also be very useful in the pollination process and are an undeniable source of food for predators such as birds, frogs and spiders.

It is therefore preferable to use the foil technique to scare them away, rather than eradicate them.
