Air Fryers have replaced dogs as man’s best friend in recent years, but the innovative technology may not be as efficient as you thought.

Air Fryers have pretty much become part of some people’s identity since they have become increasingly popular. There are even cookbooks specifically for them that you can get, birthday cards for the cooking device, and personalized aprons.

Except In addition to the supposed health benefits of using an air fryer, it is said to be cost-effective. According to CNET, the technology is “50% more energy efficient than the average full-size electric oven and about 35% more efficient than the average gas oven.”

But are they always cost efficient?

Oven
“A microwave gives you constant heat, whereas an oven heats up to full temperature and then tops it off, so it’s not running at full power all the time”

“If you were making a full roast dinner and you were cooking a lot of potatoes, it’s probably cheaper to put them in the oven than to put five or six potatoes in a microwave because each additional item you put in a microwave, you have to keep it running longer because a microwave only heats the individual item.”

5 ways to make your Air Fryer more efficient

But there are ways you can make your Air Fryer as efficient as possible. Renewable energy company GreenMatch suggests five ways to do this

  1. Use the Air Fryer chamber at its maximum capacity, as this will effectively “trap the hot air”
  2. Choose an air fryer with several cooking programs is the second tip. “This will take the guesswork out of optimizing cooking times and temperatures for specific dishes without requiring manual adjustments”.
  3. Frequent cleaning of the Air Fryer filter can also prove beneficial, as “a clogged air filter can impede the circulation of hot air”.
  4. Cook several items at once to optimize energy consumption (if you have space in the chamber, that is).
  5. The larger the Air Fryer, the more energy it takes to achieve the same result. If your household consists of two people, choose a lower-powered Air Fryer to reduce your appliance’s energy consumption.
