Place it on the patio table: Mosquitoes will immediately fly away

Mosquitoes are an inevitable nuisance during the summer months, and 2024 will be no exception with a real mosquito infestation awaiting us.

Whilst many people struggle to repel these pesky insects, there is a simple, cheap and very effective solution that can make a big difference.

By combining something simple like coffee and smoke, you can create an environment that mosquitoes don’t like.

Mosquitoes are attracted to heat, carbon dioxide and various odours, but there are certain smells that they don’t like at all.

Among them are coffee and smoke, and by combining the two, you can create an effective barrier against mosquitoes. Mosquito repellent, also known as coffee incense, not only works against mosquitoes but also effectively repels wasps.

The process is simple. You can use either freshly ground coffee or dried coffee grounds. It is recommended to use coffee grounds as it is an eco-friendly way to reuse leftover morning coffee.

Here’s how to do it

To make coffee incense, you will need finely ground coffee or dried coffee grounds, a plate, tin foil and matches.

If you want to use coffee grounds, first dry them completely in a dark place to preserve the aroma. Then cover the mould with aluminium foil and place a large stack of coffee or coffee grounds on top. When the coffee catches fire, the smoke will start to spread and drive away mosquitoes.

To humans, the smoke will just be the smell of coffee.

Overall, coffee incense can be an effective weapon in mosquito control during the summer months.
