Removing weeds from sidewalks and walkways, from a driveway or patio manually is a chore and you almost can’t seem to win because the weeds keep coming back. That’s why many people make do with a chemical weed remover. We know a cheaper way.

Chemical weed removal

There are many products on the market that can easily deal with weeds and leave only a simple burn between the joints. However, these products are both expensive and damaging to the environment. You definitely cannot use them near plants you want to keep in the garden or near edible fruits. You can remove weeds with a purely natural product, easily made at home using only basic ingredients from your kitchen.

The almighty salt and soda

When unwanted weeds start to appear between your joints, take salt and soda to the rescue. The mixture works on young plants, so don’t delay removal. Mix salt and baking soda in a 1:1 ratio and sprinkle overgrown sidewalk and pavement joints. In a few short days the weeds will dry out completely. The mixture works best in sunny weather. Clean the pavement afterwards and remove the dead plants.

Dispose of with vinegar

Ordinary vinegar will take care of quick plant death, just pour the vinegar into your sprayer and spray the unwanted plant all over. Beware of use on certain types of surfaces, vinegar can cause unwanted discolouration on stone. To avoid discolouration, dilute the vinegar 1:2 with water and repeat spraying several times.

The scrubber as a helper

Powerful brushcutters are equipped with rotary brushes, which are great for weeding and very easy to clean the joints between paving stones. The advantage of cleaning with a rotary brush is the speed of weed removal and the ease of cleaning. The best method is to use a homemade weed spray in combination with a rotary brush to clean the dry weeds.
