Preventing weeds on your patio is easy with this quick method

43views

Before weeds spread to your terrace, it’s easy to take action with this really effective method.

Weeds can quickly turn a beautiful terrace into an unwelcoming, dirty space. Fortunately, there are many ways to get rid of them. You can remove them manually with a weeding knife, use hot water and white vinegar, or try pouring boiling water over them, or boiling salted potato cooking water to kill off these pesky plants.

But the best solution is to prevent the weeds from appearing in the first place. Once you’ve got rid of them all, there are a few foolproof ways of preventing them from growing back between the patio tiles. While some people advise pulling up weeds as soon as they appear to prevent them from growing and invading the terrace, this solution is not sustainable, and you need to do it regularly. Others have much more radical and effective methods.

The first step in preventing weeds from growing on your terrace is to prepare the surface properly. Start by thoroughly cleaning the area, removing any existing weeds. Use a scraper or wire brush to dislodge any stubborn roots. It’s crucial to remove all seeds and roots to prevent rapid regrowth.

If this seems too complex, there is another method: polymer sand. This type of sand, mixed with a binder, hardens when moistened, forming a solid barrier between the tiles. Not only does it prevent weeds from growing, it also helps to stabilise the tiles, reducing the risk of them shifting.
