The Secret to Shiny Wooden Doors: A Homemade Cleaning Solution

55views

Over time, wooden doors can lose their original luster due to dust and stains. However, a simple and effective home trick promises to restore their luster and keep them gleaming with ingredients that are probably already in your pantry.

Wood doors are an elegant and durable addition to any home, but they require proper maintenance to retain their beauty. Over time, dust, dirt and fingerprints can build up, dulling the wood’s finish. Fortunately, there are effective home tricks that not only clean, but also enhance the shine of wood doors.

Preparing the cleaning solution

To begin, you need to prepare a homemade cleaning solution that is gentle on the wood, but powerful enough to remove dirt and stains. The ideal mixture includes common ingredients found in most homes. The following ingredients will be needed:

  • White vinegar: This ingredient is excellent for disinfecting and removing stains. Its mild acidity helps dissolve dirt without damaging the wood.
  • Olive oil: This natural oil not only cleans, but also nourishes and conditions the wood, leaving it soft and shiny.
  • Water: To dilute the ingredients and make the solution more manageable.

To prepare the solution:

  • Equal parts white vinegar and olive oil should be mixed with warm water.
  • A recommended ratio is 1/2 cup vinegar.
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup of water.

It is important to stir well to combine all ingredients.

Application and cleaning

With the solution prepared, the next step is to apply the mixture on the wood door. A clean, dry microfiber cloth should be used for this purpose. The microfiber cloth is ideal because it is lint-free and gentle to the wood.

The cloth should be dipped in the solution and wrung out slightly so that it is not too wet. The door is then wiped in sections, applying the solution in circular motions. This ensures that the solution penetrates the soiled areas and that the wood receives an even treatment. It is important not to saturate the door with the mixture; the cloth should be barely damp to avoid swelling or damaging the wood.

After wiping the entire surface, a clean dry cloth should be wiped to remove any excess solution and dry the wood. This will prevent stains or marks. If the door has stubborn stains, a little more solution can be applied to those specific areas and rubbed gently with the cloth.
