Home remedy for orchid

If an orchid’s not looking its best, it might be because it’s not being looked after properly. However, we can still make amends and reach for the peroxide water. This seems like it would be great for the orchid, for at least three reasons.

  • First, hydrogen peroxide will oxygenate the roots and improve the condition of our cultivated specimen.
  • Second, it will remove microorganisms that can promote fungal diseases.
  • Third – and most importantly – peroxide water can stimulate the orchid to flower.

How to water an orchid with hydrogen peroxide?

Now that we know peroxide water can help orchids, it’d be good to learn how to use it. It’s really straightforward.

  • Just mix two tablespoons of a particular product in a litre of water and that’s it.

Just a heads-up: you’ll need to fertilise the plant each time you water it. There are at least two ways to water with enriched water:

  • pour the mixture directly into the pot
  • place the entire pot in a bowl with the homemade product and wait about 30 minutes for everything to soak in

How often should I water the orchid? Although a lot of people think they should water it once a week, it’s a good idea to adjust the amount of water according to how it’s doing.

  • Just look at the roots of the plant: if they are grey, this is a sign that they need hydration.

In what pot does the orchid need to grow?

Caring for an orchid is about more than just watering with peroxide water. It’s also important to choose a pot that’s right for the plant.

  • As the roots of the orchid have an important function in its development, the pot must be transparent as they need to have access to sunlight.

On top of that, they need to be perfectly aerated, so the substrate needs to be specially formulated. You can easily pick this up in garden shops.
