It grows in places other plants can’t. It’s hardy and easy to look after. Sansevieria, also called mother-in-law’s tongue, is great for beginners and more experienced potted flower lovers. Feed it occasionally with simple nutrients and it will reward you with healthy leaves and a long life.

Long, stiff leaves are a characteristic feature

Sansevieria is an African plant that has been popular in homes for many years. It’s now common on windowsills.

  • It is characterised by its stiff leaves, which can reach up to 1 metre in length.

The plant is extremely hardy. It does well even in less favourable conditions such as low light and intermittent watering.

  • Sansevieria is extremely resistant to forget-me-not and is one of the plants that effectively remove toxins from the air.

It works well in both office spaces and bedrooms.

Sansevieria leaves wilt and lose their shine. One ingredient will save it

Coffee grounds are a popular natural fertilizer used by many gardeners.

  • It supplies plants with nitrogen, which is an essential ingredient for proper growth.
  • It is also a source of potassium and phosphorus – elements that support the root system and improve soil structure.

The plant doesn’t need to be fertilised often, so we don’t have to worry about extra duty. Coffee grounds are good for sansevieria, but use them sparingly.

How can we fertilise sansevieria with coffee grounds?

  • After brewing an aromatic beverage, wait until the grounds have cooled and dried.

Don’t rush to use it – too wet a mass can damage the roots of the sansevieria. The easiest way to use them is:

  • Spread one teaspoon of sediment on the surface of the pot.
  • Gently work it into the top layer of the substrate.

How often should we treat?

  • Apply coffee grounds to sansevieria once every six weeks.

Call this the 1:6 method to remember the frequency. Water the plant with a moderate amount of water to allow the nutrients to soak in. The plant will look green again and grow new shoots.

What doesn’t sansevieria like?

Sansevieria is hardy but needs some care when growing. This will keep the plant healthy. Water moderately.

  • Sansevieria does not like excess water, which is the shortest route to root rot.
  • It also does not like intense sunlight.

Prolonged exposure to full sun can result in leaf scorch.
