How to Reduce Static Electricity in Synthetic Garments
Do your synthetic garments tend to crackle with electricity when you put them in the dryer? There’s a simple solution: put a ball of aluminum foil in the dryer.
The Problem with Static Electricity in Clothes
Few things are as uncomfortable as clothes charged with static electricity that crackles, sticks to buttons, shocks us, and makes our hair stand on end. Synthetic garments are particularly prone to this problem. It’s usually worst if you tumble dry these garments.
The Aluminum Foil Trick
But there is a trick to use. Try forming a ball out of aluminum foil and put it in the machine when you tumble dry synthetic garments. The ball will absorb the static charge, and hopefully, you will avoid shocks!
Additional Dryer Tips
Another dryer tip is to just tumble the worst moisture away and then let the garment dry on a clothesline. Dry garments become more charged than those that are slightly damp. By removing most of the moisture in the dryer and letting the clothes air dry, you can minimize the buildup of static electricity.
