Do You Also Wash Towels at 60 Degrees? Cleaning Expert Says We Should Stop

What do you usually do?

It’s so lovely to see that sustainability is becoming more and more popular in Danish homes!

But it’s not just big changes that we can make to help the environment. Even the smallest, everyday routines, like washing sheets and towels, can be tweaked to help protect our planet without having to give up on hygiene.

Anne Grete Rasmussen, also known as Mrs. Green, has 25 years of experience in the cleaning industry and is now encouraging Danes to rethink their washing habits.

“It’s actually okay to wait until every three or four weeks before putting the bedding in the machine,” she says, pointing out that this applies to healthy people in general. If you’re ill, have asthma or similar, the case may be completely different.

Towels at 60 degrees?

Mrs. Grøn also recommends that you assess the need to wash towels individually and consider washing them at lower temperatures.

According to her, you don’t always have to wash your towels at 60 degrees:

“And actually, I would say that you don’t always need to wash your towels at 60 degrees, and I say that even though I get hit sometimes,” she says.

Use your sense of smell

Mrs. Green’s philosophy further recommends using your nose to decide if something needs a trip to the washing machine.

By choosing eco-friendly detergents and using them effectively, you can avoid the need for harsh chemicals for stain removal, says the expert.
