Cockroaches hate the smell of citrus fruit. Did you know that? That’s why experts advise “putting lemon oil in your cleaning solutions or simply using it to clean the house”, but beware, this doesn’t help to eliminate them, it just keeps them away.
For a similar effect, you can (and should) add essential oils of lime, rosemary or oregano to your arsenal. Simply sprinkle a drop of these oils, mixed with water, in the most vulnerable places to keep these insects away.
Additional Tips to Repel Cockroaches
- Bay Leaves: Placing bay leaves in cabinets and corners can help repel cockroaches due to their strong scent.
- Cucumber Slices: Fresh cucumber slices can act as a natural repellent. Place them in areas where cockroaches are commonly found.
- Mint Oil: Cockroaches dislike the smell of mint. Use mint oil or mint leaves to deter them.
- Baking Soda and Sugar: Mix baking soda with sugar and place it in areas frequented by cockroaches. The sugar attracts them, while the baking soda kills them.
- Catnip: Catnip contains nepetalactone, which repels cockroaches. Sprinkle it around the house or use catnip essential oil.
- Vinegar: Cleaning surfaces with vinegar can help repel cockroaches due to its strong odor.
- Boric Acid: Sprinkle boric acid in cracks and crevices where cockroaches hide. It’s toxic to them but safe for humans and pets when used correctly.
- Cedar Oil: Cedar oil is another effective natural repellent. Use it in a spray bottle with water and apply it in areas where cockroaches are seen.
By combining these natural remedies, you can keep your home free from cockroaches and enjoy a fresh, pleasant scent.
