An HVAC expert tips a handy trick for cooling your home.

We all know how it is when it’s scorching hot outside. Even your own home can feel like a sauna! The lovely Mikko Kulmala, our technician, has come up with a great solution that he’s just shared with us.

– It worked very well,” says Kulmala from the HVAC inspection service in Central Uusimaa.

Kulmala points out that the following trick works in homes with modern apartment-specific ventilation:

– Take the supply air valve in the bedroom and the exhaust air valve in one of the rooms off completely at night. The ventilation unit is set to full power. This multiplies the air volume compared to the normal air volume with the vent in place.

Kulmala points out that the heat recovery of the ventilation device must be bypassed.

– In addition, the intermediate bedroom door is kept closed, but the door must have a clear doorway or a separate air passage for air movement.

– It is also essential, in addition to bypassing the heat recovery, to ensure that the ventilation unit’s electrical resistance to reheating is not switched on or its temperature setpoint is not too high.

With the Kikan, there is no need to keep the windows open, thus avoiding both noise and mosquitoes. Kulmala points out that the vents need to be reset for hot days and the machine set at a lower power setting to avoid heating up again during the day.
