66views

Here’s how you should prepare and apply cement to your roof to solve the problem of leaks during the rainy season.

This is the right way to prepare cement to seal up awkward cracks in your roof, as well as prevent leaks during the rainy season. Let’s get to work!

How to prepare cement for sealing leaks and cracks in the roof?

It is very easy to get a mixture that can be used to deal with roof cracks and leaks quickly and easily. You will only need the following:

  • ½ cup of grey cement
  • ½ cup of sand
  • Water

These measures are meant to be applied on a small surface, but you can increase the quantity depending on the needs of your roof.

  • The first step is to dry mix the materials; then add water until the mixture becomes thick (ideally, if you take it with a spoon, some of it will stick to the tool).
  • Apply to the surface to be treated, having first cleaned and wet the surface.
  • Finished! You just need to let it dry for at least a day to allow the material to set well, and moisturise it for a week after laying so it doesn’t crack or fall off.

How long does cement take to dry?

This process can take 3 to 4 days when placing a large amount of material (e.g. a large roof).

To speed up the process, you can use a calcium chloride based accelerator, which is usually sold ready to use.

How to fix a roof leak as soon as possible?

If you cannot wait any longer and need to caulk cracks and leaks as soon as possible, it is best to resort to making a batter using pasta soap melted in hot water.

  • You can also apply roofing tar or acrylic sealant; Fortunately, there are several preservatives on the market and many of them have quick-drying properties.

If you have already detected the presence of cracks and leaks in your home’s roof, don’t hesitate, prepare and apply the most effective grouting compound that is also easy to prepare and won’t cost your wallet too much.
