They’re great, but they’re not very environmentally friendly, wear out quickly, and end up costing a lot of money. We have a very economical and effective solution that ensures your toilet always smells good, transforming your everyday life. All you have to do is make these blocks yourself, using ingredients you probably already have at home.
In fact, you can make these blocks with any scent you like, in just a few minutes. The advantage is that it’s more affordable than buying them at the supermarket.
For this recipe, you’ll need 4gr agar-agar to give the blocks texture, 200ml water, 150ml white vinegar, essential oil (lemon, lavender, tea tree or mint), and a tablespoon of liquid black soap (optional), a silicone ice cube mould and an old plastic toilet block. Some recipes also use citric acid instead of white vinegar.
Start by mixing the agar-agar into the boiling water. Remove the pan from the heat and add the white vinegar and black soap. Leave to cool for 15 minutes before adding 20 drops of the essential oil of your choice. Mix well and dispense into a silicone ice cube tray.
All you have to do is wait for the blocks to solidify at room temperature. Alternatively, place them in the freezer for easier removal. Next, remove the blocks from the molds. Slide one into the old toilet block and place it in your toilet bowl. Store the rest in an airtight jar, away from heat and light.
You can also use your toilet blocks for weekly toilet maintenance. Nothing could be simpler. Place a block in the bottom of the bowl. Let it dissolve and act for a few hours. Scrub with the brush and flush. This cleans and deodorizes at the same time.
