We’re starting to think differently. We’re trying to use as little as possible of the resources around us, including food. Some people do it to save money, others want to save the planet, and many of us do it for both of these reasons.

When we can, we repair items so that we don’t create more waste. We try to conserve water and energy because they’re expensive, and we buy only as much food as we can use. We don’t waste anything and we find uses for things we would have thrown away before.

Potatoes can be used to make water – an untapped miracle!

One such item is water from boiled potatoes. Of course, we just pour it down the sink. And that’s a mistake! We’d like to show you how many useful things you can do with it.

It’s packed with vitamins A, B, C, potassium, calcium and fibre. It contains starch, is a little thicker than tap water and sometimes has bits of potato floating in it. The starch means you can use it as a sauce thickener instead of flour. You can also use it to make soups. It thickens the broth a bit and, as an added bonus, adds flavour and nutrients from the potatoes.

You can also use potato water for bread, flowers and jewellery.

If you’re baking homemade bread or pizza, you can substitute potato water for regular water. You can also use some of it in the preparation of mashed potatoes, along with milk. It’ll be nice and fluffy. You can also add legumes to get the minerals from the potatoes.

If you’re not going to cook them, they’ll make a great fertiliser for your houseplants. Just to be clear, we’re talking about the unsalted ones here. A salted hot potato broth is a great way to get rid of weeds in your garden. You can also use banana peels or eggshells as fertiliser. Just drop them into a teapot of water and let them infuse. Think about recycling and don’t waste anything.

You can use the potato broth while it’s still hot to clean pans and plastic or stainless steel surfaces. It’ll also restore the shine to your silver and gold jewellery if you dip them in it for at least half an hour.

It’s great for regenerating skin and hair.

Potato broth is packed with minerals and vitamins, so it’s a great ingredient for body care too. It helps to make the skin more elastic, regenerate it and moisturise the sinuses. It might sound strange, but it’s worth washing your face with cool water. Your skin will feel tighter and look more radiant after this treatment.

It’ll help restore shine, smooth and moisturise your hair. If you use it for a long time, it can have a positive effect on how your hair grows and how much you lose. Just give them a quick rinse with cool, unsalted water. Even your irritated and dry skin will benefit from a bath in potato broth.

It’s also great for your kidneys.

In fact, the folk medicine says that drinking three glasses of warm potato water for at least three weeks can help with kidney stones. Unless your doctor says otherwise.
