Here are four household items that should never be cleaned with vinegar:
1. The Iron
While vinegar may be a perfect choice for descaling the coffee maker or kettle, it should not be used on the iron. Vinegar can cause damage to the internal parts of the iron, potentially leading to appliance malfunction or breakage.
2. Wooden Floors
Cleaning wooden floors with vinegar might make them look good initially, but the high acid content can eventually degrade the floor’s finish. Over time, this will cause the shine to deteriorate and fade. Additionally, vinegar and water can penetrate the floor, causing the wood to warp and discolor.
3. Stone Boards and Tiles
When it comes to maintaining stone surfaces, it is best to use special stone cleaners. Acetic acid in vinegar etches natural stone, potentially damaging it. It’s also advisable to avoid ammonia-based products when cleaning stone surfaces.
4. Certain Fabric Stains
Vinegar is effective for stubborn stains on fabric, but it is not suitable for all types of stains. Stains caused by grass or blood cannot be removed with vinegar, as these stains dissolve quickly into dust. Instead, it’s better to use special stain removers for such cases.
