What Not to Clean with Vinegar: 4 Prohibited Items

29views

Vinegar is also known as a miracle cleaner, but just a heads-up: vinegar isn’t always the best cleaner. It can sometimes damage furniture or appliances, so use it with care!

Never clean the following 4 things with vinegar!

1. Iron

Vinegar is perfect for descaling your coffee maker or kettle, but it’s better not to descale your iron. It can damage the internal parts of your iron, which can actually destroy your iron. You really don’t want that!

2. Hardwood floors

If you clean your beautiful hardwood floor with vinegar, your floor might look nice and clean at first, but the high acid content in vinegar also breaks down the finish of a hardwood floor and this will cause the shine to disappear over time. Consequence? Your once beautiful wood floor becomes dull and ugly. In addition, vinegar and water also migrate ín the floor, which can cause the wood to warp and discolor.

3. Stone tabletops and tiles

If you want to keep your tabletop and stone floor clean, it’s better to choose special stone cleaners or even washing-up liquid with warm water. This is because acetic acid etches into natural stone. Ammonia-based products are best avoided if you want to clean stone.

4. Certain stubborn stains in fabric

Vinegar really is a panacea when it comes to removing stubborn stains, but by no means for all types of stains. In fact, grass, ice and blood stains really can’t be removed with vinegar because these stains dissolve very quickly in fabric. Therefore, it is better to remove them with special stain removers.
